Rossa Ryan: Rising Star

Author: Abigail Haastrup

Publication date: 04th July

Rossa Ryan, born in Ballinderry, near Tuam, County Galway, on July 3, 2000, has recently been added as one of our sponsored jockeys and has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the world of horse racing. Rossa rode his first winner Willwams in the St. Patrick’s Day Stakes at Lingfield in 2017 aged sixteen and concluded his first year with a very respectable 21 wins. In 2018, he increased his season’s total victories to 78, riding out his claim.

In 2019, he rode Duke of Hazzard, trained by Paul Cole, in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood, winning his first Group race. In the 2020 Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot, he rode Highland Chief, trained by Paul and Oliver Cole, to victory. Rossa was hampered in 2021 by a fractured collar bone and appendicitis but despite that, he still rode 120 winners, including two Group 2 victories. In 2022, he had another major win when he rode Persian Force, trained by Richard Hannon, in the Close Brothers July Stakes (Group 2) at Newmarket.

With his exceptional riding skills and innate understanding of each horse’s potential, Rossa has consistently demonstrated his prowess in the saddle. His dedication, perseverance, and unwavering focus have propelled him to triumph, earning him a reputation as one of the most promising jockeys of his generation. He has had a total of 447 wins to date and counting, with already 83 wins already in the current season, including a spectacular 150-1 win in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot 2023, where he rode Adrian Murray trained horse Valiant Force to victory.

He has many more rides booked for the rest of the year, and we can’t wait to see how well he does. As the wins continue to pile up, Rossa Ryan’s star continues to rise, cementing his status as a true champion in the sport.
